Siskiyou Mt. Wagon Road 1: Old Highway 99 near the Barron Ranch house
Directions
Directions: Take Highway 66 from Ashland toward Klamath Falls and turn right onto Old Highway 99 (now Jackson County 273). Marker #1 is located ¼ mile past (south) of the historic Colonel Barron ranch house. The marker is on the left side of the road as you travel toward the Siskiyou summit. The ranch house is now owned by Jon Dauenhauer.
SISKIYOU MOUNTAIN WAGON ROAD
This toll road was constructed in 1858-1860 by the Thomas brothers. It was owned and operated by Lindsay Applegate, 1860-1869, and James Thornton and Jesse Dollarhide. It was replaced by the Pacific Highway in 1915.
