The marker is located in a park near the railroad tracks in Ashland, between A street and the railroad tracks, at the intersection of Seventh Street and A Street.
This is a marker commemorating the Applegate Party, which pioneered the Applegate Trail in 1846. It was placed by the Oregon-California Trails Association in 1993. It gives much more historical information than the marker in Phoenix commemorating the same group.
