Applegate Trail 02: at Round Prairie
This marker is located on the east side of Round Prairie, a noted resting place for early emigrants due to abundant water and pasture. The marker is set where the route of the Applegate Trail, the 1868 and 1872 roads overlap. The post office of Shake was once located about 1/8 mile to the southwest and a pioneer cemetery lies to the southeast. The marker is reached by the road that leads into the Box R Ranch from Highway 66 just west of Pinehurst. It is about 1/8 mile northeast of the Box R Ranch office and home. Permission to visit it should be obtained at the Box R Ranch office or from Jeanne Randall, 541-482-1873, boxr@boxrranch.com
