Birdseye Spring Marker
The marker is located on Highway 99 (the Pacific Highway). Coming from Grants Pass, it is just before mile post 10, on the right. It is about 1.1 miles south of the access road from Highway 99 into the town of Rogue River.
An article in the Medford Mail Tribune on December 12, 1937, indicates that this plaque was dedicated by County Judge Earl B. Day during a dedication of a new park at the famed Birdseye Spring on Highway 99. No spring was visible at the site.
The plaque reads:
Traveler,
Here Is Hill Water
They Drank From This
Spring, The Pioneers,
As You Drink Now, And
Here Their Oxen Rested.
Dedicated Dec. 12, 1937
By Judge Earl B. Day
Committee

A.T. Lathrop Effie Birdseye
A local resident told us that the pond for the spring was located just behind the wall holding the plaque. It was filled in some time ago by the owner for safety reasons. The lush vegetation in the area shows the spring still exists, though it is not visible.
